Rhinoplasty at 16?

October 19, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty

I’m turning 16 in june and i’ve wanted rhinoplasty since ive been 12 years old. Should I get it this coming summer? Why or why not? Please give your personal opinions or facts that you’ve heard. Are there more risks for patients under 18?

Thank you for your input!

I had a friend in high school who had her nose done right before college–that is, during our senior year–right after graduation. I think it was a wise decision on her part. Frankly, I think the body has a better ability to heal when we are younger. Plus, in your transition from high school to college, no one will know what your real nose looked like. Just be sure you find a doctor who will be conservative and who knows what he’s doing. The last thing you want to be is disappointed with your appearance when you’re a teenager!! However, I find docs are usually more conservative with younger patients…that’s just my own observation. Just be sure you are certain and have no doubts before you go through with it.

Hi. I’m 17 years old [turning 18 in February], and I’ve had a rhinoplasty a week ago. Today I will actually finally see what my nose looks like.
I feel great, and, frankly, I felt no pain at all [but that all depends on your body, and your pain threshhold, which is, I guess, hereditary in my case].
I’ve heard that people under 18 heal better then older ones.
Also, what the person before me said is right, in your transition from high school to college, no one will know what your real nose looked like.
I think it’s an ok thing to do, as long as you find a good surgeon and you’re completely sure you want to do it.

Hello, I’m 22 and had my rhinoplasty at the age of 16 turning 17 my senior year of high school during winter break. If I had it my way, I would’ve had it the summer before senior year. Barely anyone noticed I had something different done. One guy gave me weird looks but never said anything. I was self-conscious, but in the end was much happier I had it done during high school rather than not. I should also mention that my winter break was short, and at 2 weeks I looked like a cat–was swollen, had some bruising still. If you can deal with all these things, and you parents and your surgeon agree, have it done early if it’s something that is affecting your life dramatically. If not, wait. That perfect time is the summer in between high school and college! I’ve seen a lot of people do it then
