Columella scar indentation
December 7, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty, Revision rhinoplasty
I am 1 year post op from my 5th rhinoplasty. Finally I am satisfied with the shape, size and fit to my face. I do not want further surgery.
I have one problem. I have an indented scar on my columella from the open incision (I had open rhino 4 times).
What types of treatments are available to fill in my indentation? The columella scar is slightly darker than my skin tone and the indentation is noticeable even when I wear concealer.
I’ve been reading that fillers, microdermabrasion and laser therapy are some available treatments.
Suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!!!

DO NOT use fillers!!!!! This can cause necrosis. I had the exact same concern but I also needed revision so had the scar repaired at that time. What can be done is a minor revision, it was suggested to me that perhaps even a sliver of ear cartilage could be used as backing when repairing the scar. I hope you get this message because fixing the scar is easier than a revision but must be done by someone competent in working with soft tissue. I am not sure how significant the indentation is in your case, however in mine it was quite obvious. Just wanted to be sure you avoid the filler idea at all costs.
Hey guys, I have been dropping in on these rhinoplasty forums for the last couple of years but this is my first time to speak up on one. I had a botched nose job a few years ago…and since then..undergone 1 more closed and 1 more open(june 2009) in hopes to fix severe tip twisting…deviated septum…asymmetry..etc,etc. I am kind of at my wits end…i am an American living in the Middle East right now…went home to the states this summer JUST for a revision with an American doctor and it is STILL all messed up and now i feel like i am starting to look like an elf or something. Who are some of the BEST in the states that i can go to?? any suggestions…don’t think my nose can take much more
