Has anyone had any experience?

From what I can see some of the stuff that is posted might be a paid person just talking him up.

Looking for doctor great with small details

December 18, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty, Revision rhinoplasty · Comment

Hi all,

I live in the northeast USA and I’m looking for a doctor who can help me out. I am willing to travel so even CA is an option.

I had a primary surgery done 10 years ago, which ultimately I was not happy with. Collapsed bridge, asymmetry, etc. It needed alot of work. So then I had a revision about 3 years ago (with a different doctor). It went well for the most part, but there were some nagging issues. I went back to the doctor for some in-office work to try and remedy them. When I say in office I mean he injected a local anesthetic to the area and used a scalpel and absorbable sutures to make small modifications.

Basically what I’m left with is 1 nostril that is not quite symmetric with the other. The doctor just couldn’t get it quite right. I’m certain it can be fixed with a little bit of work. I could see possibly needing a tiny bit of skin grafting. I would also question the doctor about tip definition, as mine is a bit undefined, but if it would require significant work I would probably pass since it’s not that bad.

So my main concern is to find a doctor that can make minor millimeter adjustments to the nostril area to get 1 side to match the other better.

Unwanted results

Hi, I had a revision with a popular Dr. Unfortunately consultation was brief and the following morning was operated. Not a bad job but not the results aimed for. People say it was better before. Now it is softer, smaller, shorter, bridge narrowed, walls puffy cause he inserted, tip is flatter…can anyone give me an advise pls..

Seeking a revision in Chicago-HELP! Toriumi????

December 7, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty, Revision rhinoplasty · 1 Comment

I am a 21 year old girl living in Chicago. In March of 2009, I had a closed rhinoplasty and septoplasty. It was a terrible experience. I bruised so bad. The doctor broke my nose, which I wish he would not have done. Anyway, my breathing has improved but now my nose is crooked. I am beyond miserable. I always wear my glasses to hide it. I have had sleepless nights and anxiety due to this. I thought the rhinoplasty would help me feel better not worse.

Anyhow, I definitely want to get it fixed to straighten it out. I am thinking that maybe a graft can be added to the right side of my nose and make it even with the left. I don’t even know. I JUST DO NOT WANT MY NOSE BROKEN AGAIN and I DO NOT think I would want an open rhinoplasty either because healing from a closed one was rough enough…. Basically, I just want my life back and to get this fixed as minimally invasive as possible… lol. Is this even possible?

PLEASE RESPOND- ANYBODY WHO HAS SOME EXPERIENCE WITH THIS. ALSO, ANYBODY WITH INFORMATION ABOUT DOCTORS IN CHICAGO.
I am thinking of going to Toriumi. I know he has some bad reviews, but I also think he is very experienced and knows what he is doing. I have already been to Dr. Gary Wiesman for a consultation. He offered a free consult. Anyway, he seemed nice and experienced, but I just do not know if I can trust him and I do not know about anybody else. I want to make a right choice in a doctor and I think Toriumi seems like the safest choice. Has anybody on here had a revision by Toriumi? Does anybody know anything about Gary Wiesman? Please help. I am so depressed and I wish I would have never gotten myself into this mess to begin with.

Columella scar indentation

December 7, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty, Revision rhinoplasty · 2 Comments

I am 1 year post op from my 5th rhinoplasty. Finally I am satisfied with the shape, size and fit to my face. I do not want further surgery.

I have one problem. I have an indented scar on my columella from the open incision (I had open rhino 4 times).

What types of treatments are available to fill in my indentation? The columella scar is slightly darker than my skin tone and the indentation is noticeable even when I wear concealer.

I’ve been reading that fillers, microdermabrasion and laser therapy are some available treatments.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Prof Pietro Palma for Rhinoplasty

November 19, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty, Revision rhinoplasty · 1 Comment

Does anybody have any experience with rhinoplasty by Prof Palma (Milan)? I’ve read that he is very good as in primary cases, as in revision by closed approach. Has his personal philosophy and technique. I have some septal deviation that compromises my breathing, so, I’d like to do functional and cosmetic parts as a one-step procedure. He is otorhino and do this job well, as I know. I have rather fine facial features and pretty thin skin. so, the open approach with all this disection and scars scare me a little bit. And I don’t want my nose to be too big after all this grafts they put so often in the nose. Actually, I’d prefer to do a closed rhinoplasty and what I’ve read, Prof Palma is one of the best in it.

I’d like to know the patients’ opinion, if there are and I do appreciate any comments and advices.

Second revision

September 12, 2009 · Posted in Revision rhinoplasty · 2 Comments

Hello, all, I’m a guy who’s in need of a 2nd revision. I won’t say my exact age, but it’s not over 25. For starters, I let a very, very unexperianced ‘everything will be fine’ surgeon handle a ‘rare case’ nose that he had no clue how to fix. I was left with nasal bone deviations, cartilage collapses and pinches, and overall unnaturalness, although I guess it was slightly better than the huge, rounded clown nose I had before. I guess looking kinda like MJ is better than looking like a ape baboon, at least for a year, even though I had so many nasal collapses that it was a emotional nerve wreck!

Anyway, then, a year later, I had a revision by a top doc, to widen my bridge roof and tip points and give me a classic, masculine shape to the defining parts of my nose. I stressed very hard that I did not want my nose ‘bulbous’ or round like my old nose, but I ONLY just wanted some specific areas to be more like a normal nose. Ends up, my revision surgeon places grafts everywhere I told him not to, almost as though he got this confused, and didn’t fix a single problem I wanted fixed. I’m in a bigger mess now I and I hate it. I need the grafting removed, and to go to doc who can do that, as well as adding the RIGHT grafts to the places I needed all along, as well as fixing things my revisionist didn’t even bother to in the first place.

Sad fact: my primary surgeon took longer to destroy my nose than my revisionist took to lob grafts blindly.

I know that Dr. Le spent 9 hours on a revision, and my case is so complex that I think this type of doc is exactly who I need, although there’s almost nothing about him out there and from what I’ve read on here, he’s not big on emails. I truly need help finding a good doctor!!!

I’ve considered:
Dr. Steve Byrd
Dr. Le
Dr. Kim (the one trained by T)

But I just don’t know anyone else! Help please!? =(

Before and after pics

Hello, i am new to this forum and would like to do a poll. I have had two rhinoplasties in order to try and correct deviation to the right. Which photo does it seem my nose deviates more to the right (your left), including the bridge area?

Need a second revision

September 2, 2009 · Posted in Revision rhinoplasty · 4 Comments

I need to have a second revision, and I have been thinking about it off and on, but as the size of my bridge narrows down to my dislike and I feel that my tip is getting smaller on one side I feel that I really need to make this decision, I had been considering Dr Toriumi I like most his pictures on his web site and the review site:
http://www.deantoriumireviews.com/
some of the negative stories really scare me, although I am sure there are a lot of exaggeration and anger mixed with them.

plus the only other Dr that I can partial trust after reading his journals is Dr Guyuron and as I compared their Journal publication, techniques and pictures, it seem like Toriumi might be technically a head except that aesthetically he might fall behind a bit, can anyone please give me some advice or share their thoughts on these two surgeons with me.
Thank you

Need answers

July 24, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty, Revision rhinoplasty · 3 Comments

I’m a 19 year old male looking for some answers. I broke my nose about 3 years ago and I ended up with a disproportionally large dorsal hump. I was refereed to a cosmetic surgeon in order to correct the problem. He made it look like the surgery would be no big deal, and so I went through with it. I was mostly satisfied with the result, however there had been a collapse in one side of the lateral cartilage, causing the other side to protrude unnaturally. At the time I was unaware that the protrusion was caused by a collapse, so when I pointed out the deformity to the doctor, he offered to “shave off” the “excess”. He also said that my septum needed to be straighten because it was deviated, and that some excess bone on one side of the dorsal area needed to be filed down. Again, he made it seem like those things were no big deal. So, being naive about rhinoplasties at the time, I went through with the revision. The results seemed to be satisfactory at the first, but after 6 months it became clear that the surgery had created more problems than solved, if any at all. The tip of nose lost support, resulting in it looking droopy. The nose also looks pinched now, which it never did before. At the same time, “removing the excess bone” was nothing more than scooping out dorsal area a little more. Of course, the collapsed cartilage was not addressed at all, and the deformity caused by it is just as much present.

I’m not sure what to do now.

I’ve been very depressed and angry at the fact that the second surgery had been such a failure. To recap, here are what the problems my nose is facing: collapsed lateral cartilage, pinch, lack of support at the tip and slightly scooped out dorsal area, not to mention the nose has been operated twice. Is asking to correct all those problems too much? How complex, if possible at all, would such a surgery be? I need an honest answer as to what I can hope for. At any rate, can you suggest a surgeon? I live in Toronto, but I’m ready to go anywhere in the States or Canada.

Thank you very much

Prepping for a Revision

July 14, 2009 · Posted in Revision rhinoplasty · 3 Comments

Hi all,

I’m scheduled to get my revision rhino with Dr. Schoenfeld in DC next week and I’m starting to get really freaked out about the whole thing. How did you prepare yourself — mentally, physically, space-wise, for your revision?

Thanks!

Dr. Paul Nassif for revision

July 6, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty, Revision rhinoplasty · 11 Comments

Does anybody know if Dr.Nassif is a good choice for a reconstruction of the nose. I have an appointment for a revision with dr.Davis in two months but I’m not sure since I’ve read some bad things about him…like the way the nose collapse and the tuch up that he always have to do $$$$ and since I leave in montreal i can’t afford those tuch up and those trips. Have you heard good things about Nassif. Anyhow I will keep you update with my revision … I can’t wait !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
( sorry for my english :) :) )

Ear cartilage grafting gone bad

July 5, 2009 · Posted in Revision rhinoplasty · 8 Comments

Per your request, I’m posting photos of my nose before any surgery, after my primary and after my revision. It pains me to see my post-revision photos–the bridge is so big now. I absolutely hate it. It looks ghastly on my face. I thought it was all swelling at first and that my bridge would shrink back to a more acceptable width–boy was I wrong. After this experience, to me, ear on the bridge is a no-no. I didn’t even know my PS was going to graft my bridge, but that’s a different story. And, yes, I had a little not-so-great tip work done too, lol. But I can live with that. It’s the bridge that is bothering me. It looks so harsh on my face. I want to be careful and not say ear is bad for the bridge in all cases, but perhaps mine was just not the right one for ear. I don’t know. Do you think this is easily fixed? I heard from a few PS’s that bridge grafts can be removed, but I wonder what level of expertise that requires? Would you do the re-revision if you were me?

External valve collapse and hanging columella

July 5, 2009 · Posted in Revision rhinoplasty · 7 Comments

I’m hoping someone who has dealt with these issues, or had any luck in researching can help me.

I’m a surfer, snowboarder, mtn biker — and the collapsed valve issue is starting to drive me wild. I’ve never had great breathing, but now it’s gotten significantly worse. Talking to the general public isn’t much help, they all think you breathe through your mouth all the time. However, A) It’s not healthy to do that and B) most people use a combo of mouth and nose. My nose works at about 30% on a good day. I have noticed it’s much worse since my last surgery. I believe a big part of the issue to be that my surgeon probably removed too much cartilage in the lower 1/3. My passages always feel tight, and narrow. The hanging columella also bothers me. It wasn’t right from the gate — and I think the cartilage was mishapen when it went in.

Please let me know if anyone has sim issues, and what kind of luck you’ve had in reasearching or talking to surgeons about how to fix these? I’d just like to get my breathing back and move on!

I had a septoplasty in 2003, where they attempted to fix my deviated septum, and did a small rasp on the nasal hump I had. I broke my nose as a kid, and probably got hit in the face quite a few times after that with soccer balls, kickballs, you name it ;) Anyways, the septoplasty failed to correct the deviation — and the surgeon took too much on one side, collapsing my nose, which led to a saddle deformity/mid-vault collapse scenario. Had it fixed again in 2007. A lot of the cosmetic issues were fixed, although new ones were created. But, the biggest issue — is the breathing. I feel the surgeon removed too much cartilage and made the nose too small! I have spreader grafts in already, and they’re not doing the trick. May need to have a batten graft in the right side to help with the external valve. Any suggestions or info appreciated!

P.s. Old nose is the boxer nose. New nose is straighter, smoother. Still a few bumps, which I don’t mind. I just want the collapse and hanging columella fixed. I like the quirks of non-perfect noses and have come to appreciate this full circle.

Ear Cartilage–does it hold up?

June 25, 2009 · Posted in Revision rhinoplasty · 18 Comments

The comments on the thread below on Dr. Le has turned to a really interesting topic, that I thought deserves it’s own post to give it a bit more visibility to make sure others looking for info on cartilage grafting–specifically conchal/ear cartilage grafting–can read our conversation and join in!

I had a revision with ear cartilage, and I have to say I have mixed feelings. My doc used it on my bridge (NOT a good idea)–and now I’m in need of a revision to fix the bridge. My doc also used it for a columella strut (used two layers of cartilage, however) and a tip graft, and over a year out, my tip and strut have held up fine.

Danielle Staub’s nose – Real Housewives of New Jersey

June 22, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty, Revision rhinoplasty · 8 Comments

So Bravo has been running episodes of “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” non-stop in anticipation of the reunion show on Tuesday. I admit, I like the show. So many colorful personalities…and it’s fun to guess which of the wives has had a nosejob. Anyway, I’m not knocking Danielle’s personally whatsoever (after the finale, I actually have quite a bit of respect/sympathy for her), but her nose bothers the bejesus out of me. Is it just me or is her nosejob horrid? It reminds me of my nose! LOL. Short, but at the same time over-augmented! I hate, hate, hate a short nose with a high radix. The two together are an immediate sign of a nosejob. I’ve included a photo of her for those of you who have never seen the show. If this was your nose, would you go for a revision? My nose looks eerily similar (though not *as* bad as hers).

R4U forum is officially gone…

June 17, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty, Revision rhinoplasty · 5 Comments

Just stopped by R4U to see what was going on, since they were supposed to close today, and I was shocked to see the site redirect to a Crystal Coves/Crystal Cruises website (note: as of June 18, 2009, the site no longer redirects to the Crystal Coves page, but instead shows a 403 server error). I had to reload the site to make sure I wasn’t mistaken. I’m so sad to see it go–not necessarily the site itself, but all of the information it had amassed over the years. Folks, let’s get that info up here. If we get decent participation, I will keep this site up as long as I have a breath in me. If you’re a former R4U visitor, such as myself, welcome, don’t be bashful to post and let’s get the ball rolling!

Dr. Thomas Le – Before and Afters

June 17, 2009 · Posted in Revision rhinoplasty · 27 Comments

I read a lot of good things about Dr. Le (at the University of Maryland) on the Rhinoplasty4U forum. I have not scheduled a consult with him (yet!), but there’s not much info on him out there aside from what was said on R4U. Has anyone actually seen his before and after album? Can anyone comment on the caliber of his revision (not reconstruction–but cosmetic) work?

How are people paying for their rhinoplasties?

June 15, 2009 · Posted in Primary rhinoplasty, Revision rhinoplasty · 1 Comment

I’m curious how all of you are paying for or financing your surgeries…in particular, those of you (like myself) who are going into your 2nd, 3rd or plus operations. I paid for my first and second by credit card, and I paid quite a bit of interest on it since I was unable to pay the cost of everything all in one payment. The thought of doing it again this way is unappealing, to say the least…credit card APRs are at all-time highs right now. Also, at the time of my other surgeries I wasn’t in school, but now I have tuition payments to make as well. I know there are plans that let people finance their surgeries–are these legit? Does anyone have experience with any of these plans? I’m wondering whether it would be worth financing my revision as opposed to just putting it on my credit card (again). Or is it best to just wait and save a good chunk of money before setting a surgery date? Any insight or advice is appreciated!
