Post Op Procedures?

Postby JessicaBeautiful » Thu Jul 01, 2010 12:29 pm

Ok...no one has posted in here so far, so I'm starting up a new topic! LOL

For anyone that has HAD surgery, what happened? What did you have to do following your surgery? Was there anything specific? I'm really worried about not being able to speak, eat or drink. Heck, sometimes when my nose is clogged, I become nauseated. Not entirely sure why, but my guess is that everything is interconnected.

So tell us your story! I certainly want to hear! :)

Yes I have had a Rhinoplasty and I might as well write about it now since it has only been two days since the operation. I did not realize how troublesome it would be to try to drink when your nose is clogged up. Following the surgery you will awake with some sort of stringy material stuffed in your nose to make sure that the septum keeps its new shape as it heals. The trouble with this was that every time I took a sip it could only be a small sip and the natural reaction after drinking is to blow air out of your nose... which since it was clogged made me feel very uncomfortable and caused me to push out blood.

The doc says blood drainage is to be expected and will lower the swelling from the eyes and cheeks. Still, it was a rather unpleasant sensation. I basically fasted with just some water and a little soup. The whole night I kept putting saline water compresses on my eyes to lower the swelling. Eating, speaking and drinking abilities are quite limited at this point. My throat hurt a lot at first due to the intibation (that metal thing they use to put a hose down your throat so you can breath while they work the nose).

The next day the doc took out the packing, a quick and messy procedure with only transient discomfort. Slightly gross how long that packing is... almost felt like he was pulling out my unraveled brain at one point.

It's smooth sailing from here on out though. I can breath pretty well through my nose and i just have to apply some spray in my nostrils twice a day. After not being able to breath through my nose for soo long (only 26 hours), I felt the biggest relief in being able to just breath out at all through my nose. Drinking was nice again. Chewing food was still hard because my jaws were still pretty sore so I wouldn't recommend munching down a steak or some other meat immediately following the removal of your packing.

Now I jut gotta figure out what I'm gonna do with all this free time at home?!?!
